to write haiku.
Everybody feels entitled
to compose
aphorisms from cherry blossoms,
prophecies from perfumes,
wise breezes wafting from extinct volcanoes.
Listen, this very second,
after which youll be abashed,
even you
are thinking of a drop of blood
landing on a huge bass
drum
and thinking, oh ho-ho
the terrible thud
wont be nearly enough to

Ion Pop is the award-winning author of eight books of poetry, the most recent a volume of selected poems in the respected Hyperion Series, The Discovery of the Eye (The Romanian Book, 2001), and Elegies on the Offensive (Vinea, 2003). He also is an important critic and has translated widely from twentieth-century French poets.
Ioana Ieronim is the author of eleven collections of poetry, among them five books in English translation with Adam J. Sorkin. The Triumph of the Water Witch (Bloodaxe, 2000), a volume of prose poems, was shortlisted for the Weidenfeld Prize, Oxford. Recently, Ieronims Life Line as a Skyscraper appeared from Vinea (2006).
Adam J. Sorkins recent volumes of translation include Magda Cârnecis Chaosmos (White Pine, 2006), Mariana Marins Paper Children (Ugly Duckling, 2006), and Radu Andriescus The Catalan Within (Longleaf, 2007). He has won the Translation Prize of
The Poetry Society, London, and been awarded NEA support for his work. |
