62.

I crossed over from the clearing into the forest. 

The silver birches welcomed me; the pines whispered my name. 

The creatures that I once knew in zoology class reintroduced themselves. 

They refused to abandon me as I progressed further towards the forest’s eye. 

The devil’s melody caressed the blisters of my feet and the brushfire of my fear.
