Winter 2003

Spring Cleaning

I find your boxers in the closet
it’s been almost a year and how
in a few corners
maybe in a drawer
sometimes on a shelf
your scent still lingers.

How about that one white sock
the cat is still obsessed with—
does that go to Goodwill too
or can it stay.

I ball it up and toss it
wondering if you still use
that one picture of us as a bookmark
if it reminds you of how you told me why
we each had to be lonely
how you told me it was just the season.
