Why Are You / A System of Jets

Distant lightning chases the children from the field.
Who watches over the pages of blood?
In the storm the yearnings of a holy queen.
Or the event of a system of jets
the same four numbers over and over,
an ID, a password.
Soon you will want to be alone and unashamed.
Shaving the face or the legs in a quiet
morning only makes it worse.
Even in the event of a system of jets high above us
we are left with a mirror and the credo of the face.
People are expecting us; we would like to believe
we will do no harm.
